Day 5 and 6 - Liverpool and Manchester

After two days of travelling to Darlington and Middlesborough for our first two fixtures we were challenged with a third game in three days against Liverpool. Before we traveled to the game we spent the morning with a light recovery session playing football tennis and handball along with a small tactical session in preparation for the evening. Dale Parker our assistant coach has been in charge of the boys physical well being and his 'Sheffield Wednesday' warm up and regeneration sessions have played a massive role in our preparation.

After training we made our way to Liverpool's 'Albert Docks' location to take in the local culture and historic sites. We were able to see the River Mersey along with the famous Liver Birds that are such a big part of the history of the city. Dustin enjoyed a local delicacy for lunch, a Fish finger butty. We took a small detour for the boys by visiting Anfield which was a great opportunity for them to view the stadium and see some important sites of a club of this stature.

It was now time to head to the Liverpool Academy training ground for what would be an amazing experience for the group.  The facility was as you would expect from a top Premier League club with immaculate pitches, and incredible attention to detail.  The building itself had an incredible personal touch.  It was obvious that every Liverpool player that steps in the door is to know in detail by all of the staff and great pride is taken in there development.  As Matt gave his final team talk on the field, there was a great sense of excitement to get the game under way.  With a makeshift team including trialists, our opposition were eager to impress, but our boys manages to get on top of the game and take an early lead.  Liverpool responded from the Pk spot to end the first period level.  After a strong second period, VDA showed a high level of energy and performance dominating the the third period and scoring a superb winner with 10 minutes to go.  A great way to end our day in Liverpool!

On Friday morning, we had an early breakfast at the hotel as we prepared to spend our day at Old Trafford.  A short trip on the coach took us to Old Trafford, home of Manchester United and one of the most historically rich stadiums in football.  As we entered the stadium, we were led to the stands where we caught our first glimpse at an immaculate pitch where many of the world's greatest players have stepped foot.  From this point, we were taken into the home team dressing room and then into the tunnel where teams enter the field for each match.  Our tour guide lined up our team in the tunnel and the boys were given the opportunity of a lifetime; the chance to enter the pitch at Old Trafford into a roaring crowd of Manchester United supporters.  After our stadium tour, the boys spent some time in Old Trafford's museum, revisiting the Club's unbelievable history.
